The Phoenix Rises 1783 - 1805 (Richard Garcia)

The Phoenix Rises 1783 - 1805 (Richard Garcia)

By Richard J.M. Garcia MBE

This is the third and final volume of the trilogy documenting the social history of Gibraltar in the 18th century, from the capture in August 1704 to the decisive Battle of Trafalgar in October 1805, which was fought close to Gibraltar. The entire work covers just over a century. The spotlight in the past has often been turned on the military, naval and political history of gibraltar in the 18th century and into the early 19th century. The great events that stood out were the taking of Gibraltar in 1704 and the subsequent sieges that the fortress endured; the siege of 1727; the Great Siege of 1779-1783 (in particular) and the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.
