Nights in the Belly of Bohemia (Gabriel Moreno)

Nights in the Belly of Bohemia (Gabriel Moreno)

‘Nights In the Belly of Bohemia’ is a selection of poems written by Gabriel Moreno from 2022 to 2024. The poems were composed in between concerts, travelling by bus, train or car as Gabriel completed a musical tour which lasted more than two years. The verse is written from the perspective of a Bohemian wanderer's mind who is looking for the remnants of the Bohemia across the United Kingdom and Europe and portraying his proto-romantic stance on art and reality in the 21st century.

'Bohemia in this collection is best understood as an idea, rather than a place. But this idea is not to be mistaken for a rigid belief system or daydreaming ideal. The essence of Moreno’s Bohemia is in its fluidity, and its ability to shift locations and metamorphosise throughout the poems and songs. It is a rejection of artificial routines, structures and organisations – anything that would hold the creative soul back from its blossoming. It is the placeless place that every artist carries in their heart the fluctuating landscape of the painter, the endless road of the musician, and the wandering stage of the troubadour.' (CW Blackburn)
